The braking resistor dissipates the excess energy of the DC link.The braking resistors are intended for use with the Power Modules PM240-2 and PM240 (mounted to the side next to the Power Modules), which have an integrated braking chopper and cannot feed regenerative energy back into the grid.For regenerative operation, e.g. braking a flywheel with a large moment of inertia, a braking resistor must be connected which converts the resulting energy into heat.
